The school was founded in 1911, and it was named after Sir Charles Coghlan. It catered for boys and girls in the infant departments only. Junior section was for girls. Teachers and pupils were whites only until 1984, when three black teachers joined the staff. End of 1987 boys were moved to Milton junior school. Since then the school has expanded from two to four streams per grade. We had the first female black Head, Mrs. Moyo in 1988 currently the school has 32 lady teachers
